Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has announced its return to the creeks in the region to destroy operations of oil installations. In a statement posted on its website on Saturday, the group said that its “Operation Humble” is designed to “humble” the economy into a permanent recession. According to NDA, the operation would target political actors collaborating with the Nigerian Government to undermine the interest of the Niger Delta. It would be recalled that some stakeholders in the region had warned the Federal Government and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio of the consequences of reneging on their promise of instituting a substantive board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the end of June. Following what seems like no serious move by the Federal Government to constitute the board, especially as the expiration of the deadline draws near, the NDA decided to begin afresh, the violent onslaught against the oil facilities in the region. The group noted that it suspended its famous “Operation Red Economy” that led the Nigerian economy into a recession about four years ago, not because it was lazy, but for the love it had for the people, and out of respect for the voice of the elders of the region.
